Session I - MinecraftEDU Redstone: Medieval Machinations
MinecraftEDU is an expansive educational game that lets players design and create unique worlds with amazing structures. One of the more complicated aspects of MinecraftEDU is Redstone, which is MinecraftEDU‛s version of electrical circuitry. This class will introduce students to the many uses of Redstone through a Medieval themed adventure of creation, exploration, and castle besieging, with students making mine cart tracks to help them gather resources, working together to build their kingdom, and designing traps to defend their castle, all with the use of Redstone. No previous Minecraft experience required.
Session II - Game Design Redefined: Pixel Power
What makes a great video game? A great hero or an exciting nemesis? Exciting levels to navigate or an engaging plot or storyline? Perhaps all of the above! What is certain is a great game requires great design-focused thinkers! Students will work in small teams to create heroes and enemies, design their levels, and tell their story. Children can focus on building and fine-tuning their game layouts on a physical board using tactile elements to leverage their imagination, before transferring it to the digital realm using iPads. When they‛ve finished their tangible creations, they‛ll be immortalized in playable glory for all to enjoy. In this class, your child will unleash his or her creative mind to create a truly great video game.
